Quick Answer
Your unlock path is Tissue $70 → Workbot Storage → first Workbot → Specialty Catalog → Toolbox. You can carry 20 Scaffolding parts in Toolbox Mk I and refill an empty one at the Scaffolding Part Dispenser. Buy a Hammer too: you need it to secure the Bolts after placing parts.
How do you get the Toolbox in CRACK?
You unlock the Specialty Catalog by completing the $70 Tissue Work Order and commissioning your first Workbot.
Complete the $70 Tissue Work Order
Collect Tissue into Buckets and deposit $70 worth to finish the Work Order. Shovel Mk II is suitable for excavating Tissue at this stage. Completing this order opens Workbot Storage; having enough money alone does not open it.
Commission your first Workbot
Use the Workbot terminal to purchase your first unit for $100. Commissioning that first Workbot opens the Specialty Catalog. You only need one Workbot for this unlock.
Buy the Toolbox and Hammer
Buy the Toolbox and Hammer from the Specialty Catalog before you start building Scaffolding. The Toolbox places components; the Hammer secures their Bolts.
You have the Toolbox when the Scaffolding equipment issued message appears.
Shown at 58:16 in Floydsonson’s video. How many parts does Toolbox Mk I hold?
You can carry 20 Scaffolding parts in Toolbox Mk I.
That capacity is for parts, and you can switch the component you place. You are not limited to Poles: switch parts when you need Floors or Ladders for your route upward. Placing 20 Poles uses all 20 parts in the Toolbox.
Where do you refill an empty Toolbox?
You refill an empty Toolbox at the Scaffolding Part Dispenser.
Take your empty Toolbox there when you run out of parts. You cannot return parts already used in a structure. Plan where your Floors and Ladders will go before spending more parts on braces.
Leave the Toolbox in the Scaffolding Part Dispenser until it is full. Some players report a partial refill after pulling it out too early.
Why do placed parts still look like holograms?
You must secure their Bolts with the Hammer to turn holographic previews into built Scaffolding.
Start with Poles on the laboratory floor, then attach supported components to existing Scaffolding. Only Poles can stand directly on the ground. Tighten the Bolts until they turn green before extending your structure upward.
